10 days and counting….

Hard to believe we’ve been here for 10 days already. So much has happened which I haven’t had the time or the energy to write about. But — before we go off to the Musée D’Orsay today I want to get a post off about the last couple of days.

First, the weather has been glorious. Cool, but sunny and just right for walking around Paris. We’ve finally given up using buses exclusively. UBER — here we come. Uber is working out great and I think getting George back onto buses will be impossible.

And wasn’t I surprised to see this Amazon pick-up locker in our neighborhood. I might be tempted to try it just to see how it works.

We took a walk to Rue du Bac, a street lined with elegant small shops specializing in things like linens, women’s fine clothes, eyeglasses, toys, antiques, china and so forth. The famous Bon Marche is at one end of the street followed by the UK department story, Contrans. We love to walk down this street because it brings us to our most loved little ice cream store which has a wide range of delicious goodies with which to tempt. This time I opted to try try their hot chocolate topped with the most incredible whipped cream I’ve ever had. George stuck with the ice cream and went for double scoops of pistachio. The display of one of several chocolate stores on Rue du Bac is above.
This is the shop — a Salon de Thé. Serves a variety of delicious eats including waffles, crapes, sandwiches and of course incredible ice cream made on site. I think their cassis ice cream is the best in Paris. Many eateries and restaurants have been allowed to extend their seating into the street. I understand that as of Nov. 1, the free right to do that was rescinded. Now the establishment must pay something for doing it. We have to show our French Health Pass everytime we go into a place or sit down to have a bite.

How do you make this? More to the question — how do you cut it? I think it is meant to be a wedding cake, but I’m not sure. If you see the name on it — Angelina — that is the name of the cafe/salon de thé at the Luxembourg museum that we went to yesterday. Photos to follow tomorrow.

It was the weekend and to my surprise every museum we wanted to go to was fully booked. Covid restrictions probably the reason, but the truth is there are so many people here it makes getting into restaurants and exhibitions difficult. One must plan ahead. Also — it was school vacation week and although many Parisians have left the city, many others seems to have arrived. This week, took is more time off with Nov. 11, Armistice Day is celebrated. This year it is a three-day weekend and so many have taken this whole week off, too, along with last week’s school vacation week.

OK — I’m doing a fast forward — here I am drinking another hot chocolate at Angelina’s cafe at the Luxembourg museum. Oh — and that’s a marron crape (chestnut) — George had chocolate which was incredible, too.
